Our Flock

Here at Diamond T Livestock Co. we raise Dorper and Dorper-cross sheep.  Dorpers are known for their excellent meat production, adaptability, and low-maintenance care.  They are a hair sheep breed that has its origins in South Africa.  Wait…what in the world are hair sheep?

Hair sheep, unlike wool sheep, grow a hair or hair/wool combination that they shed verses having to be sheared annually. Dorpers have good lambing rates and are known for their extended breeding season.  From the crisp cold of winter to the sizzling heat of summer, our lambing season brings new life no matter the weather. Dorper lamb is often described as having a mild, delicate flavor due to their lack of lanolin, a waxy fat that can give other lamb a distinctive gamey flavor.

Raising quality sheep is a priority for us, but equally important is our commitment to being responsible stewards of the land they graze on.  During the grazing season here in Kansas, we continuously rotate them through small grazing paddocks, being certain not to over graze each paddock.  This allows regrowth during its “rest period” and enables us to use these grazing cells multiple times a year.  We also utilize this method to ensure we leave habitat for wildlife as well as pollinators throughout the year.  It’s a lot of work, but really worth!
